Airjet Electrical - Sunshine Coast Electrician - Safety Tips

Why you should test & tag?

By the time the Workplace Health & Safety Inspector is on site it’s too late. Government legislation requires businesses to have electrical equipment - appliances etc, certified tested and tagged for safety compliance. Penalties for not doing so can be quite severe - and rightly so!

Electricity can kill in 30 msec. Imagine the implications for the business and particularly the owner/directors. Even though many business owners are unaware of the requirement for regular testing, that’s not an acceptable excuse. No one and no business is exempt from electrical safety obligations.

All Appliances should be tested... Safety is so important !!

Government regulation states that all plug-in electrical machinery and appliances be regularly tested and tagged. [RETEST PERIODS VARY]

Appliances that should be tested include:

Maintaining your Air Conditioner

Here are some tips to assist in reducing your carbon footprint, reducing your running costs and extending the life of your air conditioner;

The best time to service an air conditioner is before it's actually needed. Regular maintenance and cleaning are extremely important. Change the filter monthly, dirty filters restrict air flow, reducing efficiency and worse case, can cause the evaporator to ice up.  Annual air conditioning check-ups, although regular checkups will not absolutely guarantee that a unit will continue to work perfectly throughout the season, they will reveal most small problems that can lead to major, far more expensive problems if left unattended.

Check before turning on your unit to make sure the condensing unit located outside is not covered up. The unit needs to draw air into the system in order to have something to cool and blow out inside, but the process is hindered if it cannot pull enough air from outside.

Every degree that you can lower your air conditioner setting will help you save money. Find the lowest setting that you are comfortable with. Ensure that your windows have a tight fit and remain closed.

Again, like anything you own, you will find that regular maintenance sooner is far less costly than repairs or even replacement later.

Checking your old Christmas lights

Before using last year’s Christmas lights, unravel them and look at the plug, leads and lampholders to check there are no exposed wires or damaged controllers, lampholders or bulbs. If you have any concerns about the safety of the Christmas lights get them checked out by a licenced electrical contractor.

Read the manufacturer's instructions for installation and follow all safety warnings.

Do not alter or modify any lighting equipment.
